Boating Safety
You will love the fishing and sailing around Hilton Head and Bluffton, but you should always keep safety in mind.
- It is illegal to cause damage to docks, bulkheads, and other properties due to wakes. Be sure to regard "no wake" and "slow zones".
- Do not litter. There are serious fines.
- Use local marinas for waste disposal.
- When renting a boat or water vehicle, be sure to ask for local and state rules, regulations, and license requirements.
- Feeding the dolphins is illegal in the U.S. Do not do it. They become dependant on human food and can easily get sick.
- Do not chase sea creatures and dolphins with boats or jet skis. They can get hurt.
- Pay attention to other water vehicles, fishermen, and swimmers.
- Respect the Hilton Head area.
- Always wear US Coast guard approved floatation devices.
For more information on rules and regulations call the South Carolina Wildlife and Marina Resources Department at 803-734-3888.
