Port Royal in Hilton Head

Port Royal in Hilton Head IslandWhile leading the British settlement of the island, Captain William Hilton first landed in 1663 in what is now known as Port Royal Plantation. Port Royal Plantation is also the site of Fort Walker, a station for confederate troops during the Civil War union troops invaded in 1861, and it is also the home of Fort Sherman

Port Royal Plantation is known for its peacefulness and natural environment. It lies at the 'heel' of Hilton Head Island and is full of many amenities. Port Royal Plantation consists of about 12 miles of beach where Port Royal Sound connects to the Atlantic Ocean. This plantation is the only exclusively private residential plantation.

Outside is the Western Resort with 24 primarily oceanfront acres of Port Royal. The resort offers privileges to Port Royal Plantation's 3 golf courses, two championship croquet courts, and a 16-court racquet club
